Today we made playdough.

We made it with conditioner and cornflour.

It was really gooey when we mixed it. 

It was soft to play with.

It smelt a little bit like apples.

We liked playing with the playdough.

Everyone had a turn. 

Everybody made something (look at the photos at the bottom).

If you want to make some you need to mix

1 cup of cornflour with 1/2 cup of conditioner.

Mixed in a bowl.

You can use food colouring if you want.

Discovery Learning

Today we presented assembly. We were very nervous on the stage, but we stayed brave and spoken in front of everyone.

Whare Ahuru Mowai

Today was our first visit to the Whare Ahuru Mowai (our library).

Each week, we visit the Whare Ahuru Mowai on Tuesday's after morning tea.

This week, we just went to explore, get familiar with the space and read books.

Soon, we will be able to issue books to bring home to share as well.

Mauri Ora Hook In

Today we had an exciting Hook In activity for our Term 1 Inquiry.

Our inquiry this term is Mauri Ora - How do I be a healthy and happy person?

Our activity was to use our senses to "guess the foods".

We had to use our smell, touch and taste.

We were excited and scared.

Here are some of the foods we had to smell.

The orange and cucumber were easy to get.

The cheese (blue) was very smelly.  No one liked the smell of that one.

The chocolate smelt nice.

Here we are blindfolded and smelling the cucumber.

After smelling we went to feel some food.  The food were in boxes that we couldn't see.

The corn felt very bumpy.

Then we went to tasting.

The soya sauce was yuk!

Discovery Time

Every week, we have Discovery Time.

All of the Rata Team are involved. The teachers set up different activities that we might enjoy and learn from.  We get to choose the activities that we enjoy or are interested in learning.

Discovery time allows us to develop our Key Competencies , follow our interests and learning through hands on activities.

Here are some photos of a few of the activities that were on offer today.

It would be great to see whanau join us during this time to "play and learn" with your child, or to help us provide more supervised activities.

The Whare Ahuru Mowai is open!

This morning many of Room 5 met together early before school at the classroom and walked up to the opening of our Whare Ahuru Mowai (our library space).

We were very excited.  We have been waiting for a year to get back into our space.

We all met in the carpark.




We were welcomed into the Whare and Mr SB spoke to us about our special place.



At the end, we got to celebrate with a drink and a biscuit made my Mrs Hayes.

It made us feel special going to the special opening.  We are very lucky to have our Whare Ahuru Mowai.

We are all very excited to be back at school!

There was lots of smiles and excited chatter as Room 5 gathered this morning.

We all shared our adventures from the holiday and were eager to write about them too!
